In this article, you will learn how to transfer media files on your smartphone directly to the Media Hub.
We use the SFTP access of the Media Hub for this purpose. This article therefore only applies to users who have the appropriate permission. How to grant this permission is explained here.
There are various apps for transferring files from a smartphone to an FTP server (e.g. FtpCafe, FTPManager or FolderSync). However, the PhotoSync app, which can be used on both iPhones and Android devices, has proven to be particularly convenient.
Unfortunately, we cannot spare you a few sentences about licensing PhotoSync: The basic functions of the app are free. On iPhones, this also includes SFTP connections (but without full transfer quality, for which the pro version must be purchased). On Android devices, SFTP is available with the NAS add-on (one-time fee). Automatic synchronisation in the background is also possible, but only in the premium version (iOS) or with the autotransfer add-on (Android), also available as part of this bundle.
Below we explain how to set up and use PhotoSync.
After installing the app, at least one transfer destination must be defined in the settings. In our case, an FTP access with the following configuration:
Protocol: SFTP
Server: mediahub.ai
Port: 22
Login: the email address you use to log in to the Media Hub
Password: the one you also use for the Media Hub
The next step is to define a destination folder. This folder must already be created in the Media Hub. This can also be a subfolder (e.g. /Media Inbox/PhotoSync).
⚠ Note: The Create subdirectories option must be set to None, otherwise an error message will be displayed and the data transfer will not take place.
You can now send images that are on your smartphone directly from the app to the Media Hub. New images are marked with a blue frame. Pictures that have already been sent have a grey frame. This allows you to see immediately which files have already been transferred and which have not.
Simply select the images you want to transfer by tapping on them. Further selection functions such as Select all or Select range can be found via the three-dot menu ⁝ under Change selection. Selected images are marked with a red tick.
Now tap on the Sync icon 🔄. In the Send tab, select Selected. In the next step, tap on FTP. The transfer should now start.
You can also use PhotoSync to download files from the Media Hub by navigating to the Receive tab.
