In this article, you will learn how to prevent the download of original files.
To prevent specific users from downloading image files in their original size while allowing downloads in a reduced size, the creation of an appropriate download template is required. Within this template, the maximum pixel dimensions are defined. In addition to the options 1700, 600 and 300 pixels, there is of course the option of defining the image size (number of pixels on the longest side) yourself.
Additional parameters are also requested when the template is created. Theoretically, you can also retain the original image size and only prevent the download of metadata or only increase the compression, etc. However, under the premise of no download of original files, the reduction of the resolution is usually desired.
You can find out how to create a customised download template here. Once the template has been created, it can be used in various places.
- In the Media Hub, the template is visible to all administrators and main users who want to make a download (optionally also for guest users).
- The template can also be used to set the sharing parameters for albums or folders. You can find out how to do this here.
- Download templates can also be used in the Media Portal. Under the Downloads tab, you can activate the templates you have created to prevent the downloading of original files. You can find more information on this in this article.
