The following video formats (container formats*) are supported, among others:
- MP4 – format for MPEG-compressed video and audio content, presumably the most widely used format of all.
- WEBM – format developed by Google that works with free codecs such as VP9 and was designed in particular for mobile web use.
- MOV (support depends on the codecs used**) – the QuickTime format from Apple. Versatile, as a whole range of different video and audio codecs are supported, a standard format in film production.
- MXF – The Material Exchange Format was developed for the professional sector. It is rarely used outside the broadcasting and film industry.
- AVI – developed for Windows 3.1 (1992), not streamable, therefore rarely used.
- ASF / WMV – the Advanced Systems Format from Microsoft (codec: Windows Media Video), streamable, digital rights management (DRM) possible.
- OGG / OGV – free format, streamable, rarely used outside the open source scene.
* Container formats can incorporate various data streams: e.g. videos, audio tracks and subtitles.
** Only streamable codecs (for web browsers) are supported. The codecs that all modern browsers should be able to handle are listed here.
💡 Tip: An automatic preview image is generated for videos after upload. If this is to be changed: Start video via large view or play button (preview media details) > pause video by clicking on the image > navigate to the desired frame using the slider > click on 🎬 in the top right-hand corner.
